In Defense of the Defenseless
"How H.R. 536 will change the state of Georgia"The light escaping from behind the closed curtains shone softly on the crumpled and listless form of a young woman lying on the floor below. Her weak frame trembled, and sobs escaped from her contorted face. The light further revealed small streams of water coursing down her cheeks, and her hand clutching tightly at her clothes. Thoughts of fear, worry and guilt ravaged her mind. Her thoughts drifted off to the day when she had given birth to a tiny, lifeless baby girl. Recalling her perfect little fingers and toes that had been terribly scalded, her once beautiful round face that was emaciated and the eyes that would never gaze into hers, sent searing pain that penetrated to the very core of her heart. With horror and regret, she thought of the life she had just ended because of her desire for convenience. A moan of anguish and utter despair escaped from her lips as she whispered, "When will the pain in my heart ever cease?"
This one example is only a microcosm of a great pain that has enveloped the entire nation. At the rate of 4,000 babies murdered every single day and 1.5 million every year, America is a continual bloodbath. Precious young lives are being sacrificed on the altar of convenience, time, money, health reasons(legitimate or not) and to prevent personal shame. Since the Surpreme Court's landmark decision regarding abortion in 1973, over 45 million babies have been slain. Morality has been thrown out the window and replaced with the idea of "free choice" and the rights of the woman. Every twenty seconds, an innocent young life is being killed in America. Is there any hope of ending this horrendous bloodshed?
Representatives in the state of Georgia are proposing to pass an Amendment (H.R. 536) that will establish the personhood of a life, regardless of age, race, sex, health, function, or condition of dependancy, beginning at conception. This amendment is a stepping stone to restore the sanctity of life in Georgia and will provide legal means of overthrowing the grip of Roe vs. Wade. Here are the three major ways the adoption of this Amendment will change the state of Georgia;
1. It will remove the ambiguity of when life begins;
2. It will establish a constitutional premise and provide a clear mandate
for the the executive branch to prosecute violators.
3. It will create an important precedent, and provide encouragement and
leadership for other states to follow.
In a country that increasingly turns its back on God and the morals that once governed this nation, a strong legal standard is needed to defend the defenseless and to be a voice for the voiceless.
While Amendement H.R. 536 may not bring relief to the grieving woman, it may prevent others from following her fate.
